Do homade cosmetics contain any chemicals?

Chemicals are often added for better quality or performance. However, it is important to differentiate between harmful and valuable chemicals.

Are homemade cosmetics expensive?

Creating your own cosmetic products will save money. Once you have a stock of basic ingredients, you are able to create various products enough for several months.

How long is the shelf-life of homemade cosmetics?

You can preserve products for a couple of weeks or for three to four years depending on three factors: 1) how clean you work (disinfection is very important); 2) what kind of container you use (dispensers are preferable because contamination is minimized); 3) the concentration of anti-microbial agents (essential oils, vitamins, and preservatives).

What is INCI?

International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient (INCI) Names are the unique identifiers for cosmetic ingredients that are assigned by an International Nomenclature Committee  in accordance with rules published in the most recent version  of the International Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary and Handbook,  published by the Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association, Washington, DC, USA.   These identifiers are recognized for ingredient labeling of personal care products in the United States, the European Union,  and many other countries.

Why is it important to use moisturizer?

What are the advantages of homemade cosmetics?

The biggest advantage of self-made products is that they are genuinely natural. There is no need to add chemicals for a certain color or fragrance, or to achieve a shelf-life of several years. You simply add what's good for your skin at concentrations which are effective for you, making each product explicitly yours. This includes many different botanic ingredients, such as concentrated herbal extracts, precious plant oils and plant distillates, sugars, vitamins, lipids, proteins and natural essential oils.

Do you need to moisturize oily skin?

Yes, you need to moisturize your skin even if you have oily skin. Moisturizer is used to improve your skin’s texture and to hydrate your skin. If you have oily skin, you can use oil-free moisturizer to avoid greasy and shiny looking skin.

What causes acne?

Acne is the most common skin problem. It can be caused by excess sebum oil, clogged pores, hormonal changes, medication or lifestyle and diet changes.  Though it is common during puberty stage, young adults can also have acne outbreak before the age of 30.  It is less common in older adults.  Other factors such as stress and cosmetic products can also cause acne.

Are homemade cosmetics food-based products?

No. In older recipes for homemade products eggs, milk, yoghurts and other food products have usually been used as basic ingredients for making body care products. What is the difference between a gel and a cream?

The difference between a Gel and Cream is very simply that the gel is transparent, and a cream is not. When applied, gels are typically colorless and disappear. Creams, despite having a colour base, are not visible once applied, but gels get absorbed more rapidly than creams. The majority of gels are oil-free.

What is the best way to apply face gel?
